Dear Cheryl Anne, I discovered your poems on the Druid Hearth, and something spoke to me through your wards. No lightning flash mind you but, still, it was like a whisper from the past.
I'm a 74 year old male who is also facing mortality in the form of a cardiac situation. I was raised in a positive based Christian domination called Unity, based in Lees Summit Mo. the basic mantra is "God the good is all there is". So when illness appeared, I thought that it was not a true thing. As I garnered wisdom from life, I find there are indeed unpleasant things that are presented to be delt with. So here I am pre-treatment, thoughts of fear and what ifs, not sleeping. Then this very night just passed, I experience a tremendous sense of the love you were talking about in your bio. Odd as it sounds, I was filled with gratitude and a quiet joy. When I read your poem "Love's Quiet Spirit" my sails were filled with the power of the Divine because all power comes from the Stillness. Thank you. Michael (Dark Alef on the Druid Hearth).
I am grateful that you have found something that speaks to you in my words, and humbled by your willingness to share here. With great empathy for your present circumstances, I would be happy to pray for you, with your permission.
There is a quote from the contemplative Christian mystic, James Finley, that I find profoundly comforting and helpful and would like to share with you.
"If we are absolutely grounded in the absolute love of God that protects us from nothing even as it unexplainably sustains us in all things, then we can face all things with courage and tenderness and touch the hurting places in others and in ourselves with love."
The more often I visit that inner space of quiet stillness, the more I touch the truth of this; far beyond quote or mantra, and opposite of any sort of wishful thinking, spiritual bypassing or escapism. There is, in reality, a deep well of tangible compassion at the very heart of our greatest vulnerability. The water is sweet and warm, soothing and healing; and always available. If only we can be still.
